Touch of the Good Life

Every year me and Madison enjoy growing our own fruit and vegetables not only is it another way of reducing the cost of your weekly shop but they taste so much better when you have grown them from scratch. you don't have to have a very big garden either my garden is not that big but in one of my borders i have sectioned off a 2.5 X 1 metre area and have made our little veggie area. This year we have opted for the usual potatoes which we have planted in a raised planter as they were swamping the vegetable patch last year, tomatoes, peas, round carrots ( a change from the normal long ones ) lettuce, strawberries, onions and another little herb box.

 Madison planting the carrots.

I also take full advantage of all the areas of learning when we are planting and growing our own food from making and writing our own labels, encouraging questions and research if I happen to not know the answer (good old google), and learning about anything else that may capture Madison's attention like........

"Legs the centipede "

Starting him off young we got the baby of the family Jasper enjoying all the textures and sounds of gardening from shaking the seed packets to hear the seeds rattling and feeling the compost using a number of different tools his favourite being his hands and taste buds.

Let me know if any of you have a veggie patch I would love to hear tips and ideas.

Enjoy a lovely sunny weekend

Decisions, Decisions, Decisons........

This week has been filled with lots of really tough but important decisions the main one being...
To go back to work or not?.  Returning to work after you have a baby is so tough and believe me I completely understand having done it with my first child Madison. However what made it a lot easier is that I worked for the nursery she attended, and had a very understanding staff team who were very supportive. So returning to work after Jasper was aways on the cards now that Madison is at school so only one child's worth of fees to pay.
If only it was that simple ... I now faced a dilemma, putting Jasper in to nursery and working my old shift pattern meant that Madison would have to go to before/After school and Holiday club which totted up to an unbelievable amount which we simply could not afford. So whilst in and out of talks with my manager who was so understanding and working around Joe's work we thought about me going term time only however this in its self was a huge hit on my pay as my hours diminished but days went up and so did Jasper's nursery fees as I would need more care for him.

I personally deep down knew that the only option would be for me to stay at home so I could do the school runs, care for Jasper and be there during the holidays and not have to rely on family, friends and holiday clubs ( which I personally hate doing anyway). For a lot of mums this is the best news they could possibly receive that they would not have to leave their baby's. So on Wednesday of this week I made the hardest decision I have ever made and Handed in my resignation. Don't get me wrong I am pleased as punch that I am lucky enough to stay at home and care for my children myself, but on the other hand I am giving up my job / career which I absolutely love and going to work was never a chore it was always my extended home with my extended family as we had all been together for many years. So as you can imagine there was lots of tears and hugs and extremely kind words from staff and parents who's children I have cared for which in return brought more tears. I know we have made the best choice however hard it may have been. I will miss working with my extended family but we are constantly in touch via social networking sites and regular visits I will be making.

more mummy milestones .......

well all manner of things have been going on in the Terry abode in the last couple of weeks we have now reached that point in Jasper's life where he was now ready to face the world head on rather than letting it pass him .
The verdict..................

LOVES IT! ( although a little quite at first) , He giggled and chatted away the whole journey .
This was such an emotional moment as it's me finally admitting to myself that my baby is growing up.  I would love to keep him small forever but he is becoming such an interesting little boy who chats away all the time, screams when he gets the chance and is now on the move rolling about all over the place and has now mastered rolling through the doors only in the last couple of days realising he needs to lift his legs up to get through. The sense of achievement he gained at that moment was amazing  I feel so lucky to have seen and shared it with him.

As you may have read in previous posts our little princess has had a few ups and downs in the behaviour department whilst at school which resulted in her having a reward chart everyday  which she collected bubbles for listening, sitting still, working well ect ect .
well we have had another parents evening which I did have a little pang of doubt in the pit of my stomach about as the bubbles have been dwindling in numbers recently so wondered if the unwanted behaviour had returned .
Well we could not have been more wrong Madison has been doing fantastically at school both academically and in her behaviour. The reason for the dwindling numbers is Madison has not needed that incentive to encourage the positive behaviour so in a way she and her teachers have weened her off of the reward chart .
Me and Joe felt like we were floating on cloud 9 ! such an over whelming feeling of pride and accomplishment that we are doing right by Madison and who would want anything more.

Going to end this weeks post on a recommendation.
